Over the past week or so I have been watching the ukuleleunderground.com as members submitted pictures of their ukuleles for my new video, "One Ukulele." Here is the result of that video - I hope you like it: Uke Thong and Kiwaya Uke Straps 11/14/2010
Just a little informative and goofy video review of two classic-guitar style ukulele straps, the Uke Thong by Wild Child and the Kiwaya Ukulele strap. Both work very well and are very well made. You can find the Uke Thong on Ebay and the Kiwaya at Elderly.com. Each is around $15 or so shipped to your door. Video Review of the Lanikai S-TEQ Tenor 11/12/2010
Too lazy to write right now, so here's my video review of the Lanikai S-TEQ spruce top tenor with Belcat U-2000 on-board preamp and U-4000 undersaddle pickup. Love it and it's on a lot of my videos. Kind of a long review, but funny, too, so hope you like it. I have a more detailed written one at my Lamb Chop Ukulele Cookin' Site, too. Tiptoe Redux 11/07/2010
Been working a couple of weeks on my own version of "Tiptoe Through the Tulips." Stick with it to 2:30 as it picks up quite a bit. I am still working on this, but just wanted to get my arrangement out there. The ukulele in this video is kind of special, as it is my Cordoba tenor with a modified bridge, custom inlay side dot markers, and signed by Jake Shimabukuro. Fun to play. Last night I was blessed and honored to see, for the second year in a row, Jake Shimabukuro perform at the Ark in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It’s a small, intimate venue that Jake obviously loves playing. He did a number of new tunes, including the very cool “1-4-3” (which is pager talk for “I love you”) and the touching “Go for Broke,” which will be on his new album, “Peace Love Ukulele,” due out this January. As he did last year, Jake closed his show with his cover of “Bohemian Rhapsody.” It was amazing then, but over the past year it has matured to an incredible piece that I have no doubt will become another of his signatures. Below is a video directed by Tadashi Nakamura, who is doing an upcoming documentary on Jake for the Center for Asian American Media, due out sometime in 2011. I'm Playing Stick Dulcimer 10/31/2010
OK, I am always going to play ukulele, but I had the opportunity to play one of these the other day and just could not put it down. It is a Stick Dulcimer, tuned to D diatonic and made by the Mole in the Ground Studio in Michigan. Beautiful work of art but much more fun to hear and play. Reminds me of my old banjo days, actually - strings of steel! Here are a couple of videos you might like - they are my first efforts on this very unique form of Mountain Dulcimer. Eight Million YouTubers Can't Be Wrong 10/28/2010
The definitive Ukulele video; the incomparable Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. Glen Rose Jazzy Ukulele Lesson 10/26/2010
If you're interested in playing jazz standards, one of the best methods out there is taught by Glen Rose, whose books are available through his Jazzy Ukulele site at www.jazzyukulele.com. To give you an idea of what to expect in his books - as well as show you how great a teacher he is - here is one of several lessons he has out on YouTube. Ukeninja1 Plays "Happy Days" Theme 10/24/2010
In honor of the late Tom Bosley, who just died this week, here is ukeninja1's wonderful ukulele take on the "Happy Days" Theme. Bosley had played "Happy Days" dad Howard Cunningham, along with a number of lead and character roles in a long TV career. May he rest in peace. | Ukulele
